- Sample Unit Outline
- Look at one unit of your course content and consider how it might need to change for an online version of your course
The
Course Scope needs to mention the blended learning aspect of the
course. The course goals need to include some detailing about online
participation. The units should have links to each week's activities
and will be posted on my blog? Or on Canvas or both? The units need to
have the dates for presentational culminating projects. The materials
list will change considerably given the added online resources and apps
that will be used. The student phone usage advisory will need to be
revised, as the students will be using their phones to access and
practice online using the phone as a tool. In this section I need an
Acceptable Use type contract. I will also want to attach some kind of
online pre-assessment to evaluate language and technology skills. I will
write rubrics to clearly detail HOW, WHEN and WHERE students will
communicate, HOW, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN students' reading and listening
skills will be assessed. All of these things will need to be on Canvas
or my blog in a checklist, week by week style for ease of access and
redundancy.
- What is important to keep in mind as you break up your schedule into weekly units?
I will keep in mind a simplified
format, clearly stated instruction videos, reminders and redundancies
all prepared in advance. All should be ready before the course begins.
Students will need more time to complete online activities than the
classroom activities.TIME
will be a major consideration. And clearly written scenarios. With
the blended class, I am thinking just two online discussion type
assignments per week for starters.
- How
can you arrange your activities so that there is repetition and a
cycling of activity types that is the same from week-to-week, or
unit-to-unit?
I'm
thinking that redundancies can be created in the Syllabus, during the
weekly activities and during recycling in the units through links,
emails, general announcement reminders, in the instructions for each
presentation...
- Make an
outline of this unit so you can add it to the syllabus revision list as
an example of how you will structure your online course.
The Unit outline is attached.
- Are there links you can add to your syllabus for important/required school/university information? (so you don't need to copy it all into the syllabus!). What does your school require you to have in your syllabus?
Absolutely.
The FERPA application, tardy policies, Grade weights and standards,
Notification of Progress, Student Conduct, the Cimarron Memorial High
School Citizenship Rubric, The school website and district links for the
calendar, my email address... probably many things that I have
forgotten?
- What do you have questions about now when you are writing your own syllabus?
I wonder if I can get this done in time? I am sure going to try.Attached is the BEFORE Unit 1...
